These awards acknowledge the exceptional work and contributions to safety in regard to leadership, innovation, commitment, and impact beyond the plant.
“It is humbling, and gratifying, to see the extraordinary lengths our member companies and individuals at those companies go to make production operations safe,” says Robert Dugan, President and CEO of CalCIMA. “I am particularly glad we get to recognize those mines, plants, and individuals in front of the whole membership at the Education Conference. It is comforting to see and celebrate that ‘safety first' is not just talk, but action!”
The Excellence in Safety Awards honor different categories of mines and plants, such as aggregate, asphalt and concrete, as well as a special recognition award. The winners are:
Large Aggregate Mine: Irwindale Sand & Gravel Plant - United Rock Products
Small Aggregate Mine: Handley Ranch Quarry - Granite Construction, Co., Inc.
Asphalt Plant: Roseville Hot Mix Asphalt Plant - Vulcan Materials Company
Concrete Plant: Pinole “Sugar City” Concrete Plant - Central Concrete Supply Co. / Vulcan Materials Company
There are also individual winners who have demonstrated that they prioritize and practice safety every day. The winners are:
Outstanding Safety Leadership Award: Robert Butler, Irving Plant Manager - Holliday Rock
Safety Professional Award: Mike Herges, Safety & Health Services Manager - Graniterock
P.W. Gillibrand and Co. Chair of the CalCIMA Safety and Health Committee Meghan Neal presented the awards. Safety Award winners are chosen based on an essay describing what's occurring at the plant, and a panel of judges from CalCIMA's Safety and Health Committee review and choose the winners.
Congratulations to all the winners!
