The State Mining and Geology Board (SMGB) is reaching out to inform lead agencies of the mining ordinance update project. Local mining ordinances must be periodically reviewed, revised, and certified by the SMGB as necessary to ensure they continue to be in accordance with state mining law. Most mining ordinances haven’t been locally updated and subsequently certified by the SMGB since the significant changes were made to state law in 2017.
Join CalCIMA and the State Mining and Geology Board for this informative update on the State Mining and Geology Boards plans to conduct outreach to local lead agencies and stakeholders to ensure mining ordinances are updated to reflect the improvements of SMARA modernization. Ensuring ordinances meet state standards is an important aspect of SMARA and this outreach will assist the Board in managing the workload of over 100 lead agencies statewide.
