Quarry Geologist

Responsible for geologic and ore control aspects of mining operations.  Support or direct daily Lucerne Valley quarry operations in order to meet proper specification of present and future plant feed stone requirements; ensure safety, environmental and regulatory compliance and support economic and sustainable development of the mineral resources.

Support or manage quarry operations to ensure that quarry development plans are being followed, feed stone requirements are being met and quarry permit conditions and other government regulations are being followed.

Interact with plant staff and review quality control data as it relates to feed stone selection and blending, ore processing, and maintenance of consistent feed stone to the plant.
Lead the promotion of safety awareness and MSHA compliance.
Monitor and track quarry production and development volumes.
Prepare annual mine plans and monthly extraction charts, from 5 year mine plans to provide the budgeted ore quality and tons to the plant.
Maintain and update quarry production and development maps and cross-sections for economic quarry planning.
Support or manage drilling or geologic mapping projects to improve geologic knowledge and updates of geologic models and mine plans.
Conduct year-end and mid-year stockpile inventories ( and as needed by accounting department.)

Other duties as assigned.  Some travel is expected with this position.  Occasional support of other quarry operations may be assigned.

Requirements QUALIFICATIONS:      A university degree in geology, or a suitable combination of appropriate education and experience, with at least 5 years of practical experience gained primarily at hard rock open pit quarry operations.
Advanced capacity to use Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and mine planning/ resource management computer software.  The preferred experience is with Surpac.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to work both as a member of a team and independently are required. 
Sound knowledge of geology and grade control methodology including database software.
