Dispatch Engineer
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the Dispatch Engineer is responsible for the management of the mine dispatch system. This includes the coordination of hardware and software repairs with on-site personnel or the vendor as required. The Dispatch Engineer should be able to work independently to implement systems within mine dispatch that contribute to effective reporting of operations processes. The Dispatch Engineer will also review shift results with the Operations team and support the development and implementation of best practices to improve site productivity and reduce site wide costs.

Primary Functions:
1. Health and Safety
  • Knows responsibilities related to WMMI’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP)
  • Contributes to the department’s health and safety goals and objectives
  • Responds to safety concerns and/or unsafe conditions,  and takes corrective action, or seeks assistance in doing so
  • Ensures each shift meets documentation, reporting, and, follow up requirements
2. Environment
  • Contributes to the department’s environmental goals and objectives
  • Reports environmental concerns and takes corrective action, or seeks assistance in doing so
  • Follows company standards and guidelines for spill reporting and response
3. Engineering
  • Independently implements processes, procedures and systems within mine dispatch that contribute to effective reporting of mine operations processes.
  • Analyses and interprets information regarding mine operations
  • Prepare communication materials, manuals and other written materials related to technical issues, programs or systems.
  • Keep abreast of trends related to mine operations and incorporates this information into work.
  • Contributes to the development of policies and practices in the Engineering department
  • Researches information to support decision making and improve processes, technologies or methodologies
  • Design and implement production reports as required by mine operations and technical services.
  • Produce at required intervals, mine production statistics, evaluate trends and recommend corrective courses of action.
  • Maintains and updates the dispatch system software in conjunction with the vendor as required.
  • Maintains all dispatch system databases
  • Coordinates hardware repairs as required with Mine Maintenance departments
  • Manage the vendor service agreement and ensure all services are being met.
  • Performs system administration tasks for the dispatch system
  • Performs training in the use of the dispatch system
  • Reviews shift results with the Operations Team.
  • Support development and implementation of best practices for mine management systems to improve site productivity and reduce site costs while also facilitating global reporting
  • Developing KPIs for Dispatchers or system users
  • Integrating other site systems thru Wenco to help centralize processes and applications
  • Managing the LOM of the system; hardware and software
  • Collaborative working with the IT Department
4. Cost Control
  • Provides input for annual engineering operating budget
  • Develops AFE’s for department capital expenditures
5. Communication
  • Maintains effective information exchange with related departments
6. Training and Development
  • Coordinates the scheduling, delivery and documentation of employee training on the Dispatch system
7. Continuous Improvement
  • Recommends CI initiatives
  • Supports implementation of approved initiatives

Requirements Knowledge, Skill and Experience:
1. Minimum Education (or substitute experience) Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or enough. Education requirement may be substituted with 5+ years verifiable experience working with mine dispatch systems.
2. Minimum Experience Required:
  • 5+ years of related work experience with 5+ years in a dispatch environment,
  • Be familiar with Modular Mining, Cat Minestar, Wenco, or Micromine and related reporting system,
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products,
  • Knowledge of SQL Server Database applications preferred,
  • Strong computer and analytical skills,
  • Solid understanding of mesh radio networks, database management, fleet allocation optimization.
