Assistant Fleet Safety Manager
Full Job Description:

Superior’s assistant fleet safety manager reports to Superior’s senior fleet safety manager.  The assistant manager strives to meet company goals for fleet safety, compliance. The position requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. The assistant manager is responsible for monitoring driver performance and coaching drivers.  The assistant manager also ensuring company policies are in compliance, including state, federal and DOT laws and regulations.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Focus on safety, service, costs, professionalism and respect.
  • Responsible for DOT compliance.
  • Ensure all company safety policies are understood and enforced.
  • Promote safety awareness through safety bulletins, in person meetings and virtual meetings.
  • Ensure that all hours of service regulations, DOT/ state regulations and company safety policies are followed.
  • Ensure DOT paper-logs are audited and correct.
  • Ensure on-road equipment is PM/BIT inspected within timelines.
  • Ensure equipment damage reflecting safety concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure damages are charged to responsible parties.
  • Effectively communicate safety objectives to plant managers, shop managers, driver managers and drivers.
  • Conduct and complete accident investigations in a timely manner.
  • Utilize LYTX camera reviews to coach drivers and promote safety.
  • Utilize SMITH System training to encourage fleet safety goals and improve driver safety.
  • Develop and utilize fleet safety training manuals to assist/reinforce driver training.
  • Ensure all PPE are in stock, supplied to drivers and worn per company policy. Promote accident prevention by wearing safety gear provided.

Requirements Minimum Qualifications:
  • Excellent internal and external communication skills and ability to implement safety and compliance per company policy
  • Ability to lead by example and foster collaboration within the workplace with high integrity, professionalism and respect.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing conditions and remain flexible in all areas of responsibility
  • Highly motivated, goal oriented and able to complete tasks on time
  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment 
  • Experience in the transportation industry
  • High school diploma.  Bachelor's degree in safety, communication, logistics, or business preferred
  • Above average knowledge of operations, hours of service regulations and DOT / State regulations within the transportation industry

? Proficient in Windows based programs, MS Word and Excel
