Job Description

In this position you will work closely with the Manufacturing Manager as well as interface with our Sales Project Engineer and our equipment sales staff to develop sales and GA drawings using AutoCAD. These drawings will depict and illustrate what equipment and fabrications we are proposing to sell to our customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for developing GA drawings for small projects such as retrofitting existing plant sites with new equipment as well as larger new green-field projects that you will take the lead engineering role on from conception to completion. This may require you to work closely with our PE to develop complete drawing, calculation and building code specification packages that are to be submitted for building permits.
  • Responsible for our plate nesting of parts using Sigmanest and our drill line CNC programming using the Peddinghous Hole lay out software.
  • Position requires some day trips as well as overnight travel to visit customer plant sites for field engineering to develop drawings with sufficient detail to accurately quote, design and build from. Position may require working closely with other civil engineers and surveyors to determine and establish bench marks and appropriate work-points using topo maps and other types of maps/drawing in order to plot out the equipment orientation within the project boundaries.
  • Projects may require you to take field measurements and data to bring back to the office and generate GA drawings to be approved for fabrication and then detail shop drawings for manufacturing. This may be a solo endeavor or may be a joint venture between you and our Design Engineer and or outside engineering/detailing professionals working together to design and detail the necessary shop drawings.
  • Responsible for the design of new engineered products that could become Compass standards or custom one offs, such as portable crushing and screening plants as well as portable stacking conveyors.
  • Responsible to develop other products, items and data such as standard equipment/fabrication pricing information and to help the sales staff with preparing material take-offs and cost analysis spreadsheets as well as quotes and proposals for these items.
  • Pursue the business segment of Bruno plant flow simulation software, to analyze existing plant flow and or for new plants. Once the ideal flow is established then prepare GA drawings with appropriate type and size equipment to coincide with the flow simulation diagrams.
  • Able to convey customer requirements to the Management team.
  • Follow procedures as outlined in Compass Equipment standard operating procedures.

Candidate must be self-motivated with a proven track record in using AutoCAD. Must possess strong presentation skills and be able to communicate professionally in written response to emails, written letters, and when submitting reports. Organized, analytical, and able to eliminate obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches.
  • 5+ years in using AutoCAD
  • AA degree or 2 years of college education required
  • Construction experience helpful but not required
  • Experience in similar industries helpful but not required
  • Strong verbal, written, computer communications and technical presentation skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status required.

Possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos and email. Ability to write simple documents. Ability to prepare reports utilizing a variety of software programs. Ability to communicate effectively and present information in one-on-one situations to customers, clients and other employees of the company.

Ability to operate a motor vehicle and posses a valid California Drivers’ license issued by resident state required. Provide current certificate of automobile insurance coverage and provide DMV printout evidencing a clean driving record.

  • Computer literacy and ability to utilize the computer system in use by Compass Equipment.
  • The ability to accurately prepare basic Word documents and enter data on Excel
  • spreadsheets.
  • Ability to enter alphanumeric data to computer system.
  • Ability to work in a multi task environment; job description calls for the performance of a number of task, many task to be performed concurrently.
  • Ability to function independently without recourse to direct supervision.

  • Typical physical requirements of an office environment are present: movement around office and/or complex, utilize copy or fax machines; requires walking to other offices and around the complex. Typical physical requirements of a warehouse/manufacturing environment are also present: movement over uneven ground, walking up & down stairs, utilize small tools required within shipping and receiving; slide and/or position objects heavier than 70 pounds.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, typical of an office setting. While outside the office area the work environment is an open air manufacturing one with higher noise levels, fluctuating temperatures dictated by weather conditions, movement of heavy equipment and standard manufacturing processes which require strict adherence to safety procedures. Employee is to have scheduled breaks away from physical requirements of workstation and general office noise.

  • Required to use all ergonomic safety guards provided for workstation.
  • Aisles and work area around incumbent to remain clean and free of trip hazards.
  • File drawers to be kept closed when unattended.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions and/or lighting problems to supervisor.
  • Obey all applicable traffic safety laws when operating a vehicle on company business.
