OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
 
We are looking for a skilled Millwright to join the Simi Valley Maintenance team. To provide construction, installation, relocation, repair, and preventative maintenance on machinery, equipment, and facilities. A specific work schedule can vary based on need, but typically 8-hour shifts on the second shift from 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

This position will report to the Maintenance Supervisor, and working our Operations & Maintenance Services teams, your responsibilities will include:
  • follow safety protocols and standards to ensure a safe working environment in accordance with accepted Industrial PWG standards – actively engaging in our safety culture.
  • Coordinate Millwright functions with overall plant operations.
  • Diagnose and repair different types of rotating and conveying equipment, including pumps, elevators, screw conveyors, belting, material handling.
  • Use power and hand equipment, perform varied types of rigging, often at heights which require climbing, and the use of safety equipment i.e., harness, lanyard, personnel-lifts, scissor-lifts.
  • Understand rigging and how to operate hoists and lifting devices such as cranes, jacks and tractors to position machinery and parts during the installation.
  • Install, align, dismantle and move industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, tanks, conveyors, electrical motors, and manufacturing equipment according to layout
 
 
  • Competent with shop tools; welder (Mig Stick), grinder, cutting torch (Oxy/acet., Plasma), lathe, iron worker, layout and hand tools, and floor press to fabricate parts required during overhaul, or maintenance of machinery. 
  • Understand heavy equipment (forklift, frontend loader, excavator, telehandler, etc.) operations and abilities.  
  • Good housekeeping maintain the work area safe, clean, and well maintained. Take timely action to correct unsafe work conditions.
  • Maintain a continuous improvement focus by developing and participating in the implementation of solutions for the work area.
  • Maintain records of maintenance tasks including work orders, safety inspections and parts tracking.
  • Provide mentorship to the team.

JOB DUTIES
 
  • Performs a daily workplace exam of safety hazards and report any problems.
  • Conducts routine inspections of all stationary and mobile equipment.
  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by troubleshooting malfunctions on conveyor systems and production machines by following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, and manufacturer's instructions.
  • Assist with design of new or upgraded equipment and machines with the intention of reducing downtime.
  • Performs repairs, using welding, air arc and cutting torch equipment according to MSHA and AWS safety and performance standards.  Safe usage of hand tools, hoists, jacks, and pneumatic tools is required.
  • Repairs and maintains stationary equipment, such as conveyor systems, processing screens, pumps, cone and jaw crushers, air slides, elevators, log washers, sand screws, compressors, hydraulic systems, filter presses and dust collectors.
  • Observes mechanical devices in operation and uses all senses to listen, see, and feel their sounds, motion, vibration etc. to locate causes of trouble. 
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts and replaces defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Follows preventative maintenance program for all equipment, performs tasks and when required, tracks and documents tasks in the company’s CMMS.
  • Maintains other required documentation related to maintenance tasks; CMMS Work orders, Safety Inspections, Hours and Parts Tracking, Updating of Bill of Materials.
  • Operates mobile equipment, including a forklift and man-lift.
  • Manufacture/fabricate industrial components.
  • Coordinate activities with production team and management
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • High school diploma, General Education Degree (GED),  vocational training specializing in maintenance, or similar work experience.  Journeyman Millwright certificate of qualification required.
  • At least 4 years of practical experience in Millwright maintenance field.
  • Other Education Requirements, Work Experience, and Certifications:
    • Industrial Maintenance experience.
    •  Metal layout and fabrication experience.
    •  Heavy equipment mechanic experience.
  • Experience in milling, cement processing, or similar industries preferred.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and design skills.
  • Ability to repair hydraulics, motors, pumps, and gearboxes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to perform industrial mathematics with a basic understanding of geometry and trigonometry.  
  • Strong welding skills— 6G certification or an AWS Structural Certification (being current is not necessary).
  • Background in machining, disassembly and repair of rotating equipment in a machine shop environment is preferred.
  • Crane Certification desired but not required.  Needs to have been certified in the past or capable of being certified.
  • Capacity to give accurate crane signals, calculate loads and rig correctly
  • Training in rigging equipment such as wire rope, chokers, synthetic slings, cable clamps, hooks, shackles, and other rigging apparatus
  • Coordinating Millwrights function with overall Plant Operations; preparing parts lists and order and retrieving parts as needed
  • Must be proficient and able to demonstrate welding and fabricating skills
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Teamwork, creativity, and problem analysis skills.
  • Experience in operating mobile equipment is not required but is a plus. 
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Suite).
  • Ability to lead, communicate and collaborate effectively
 
       
WORK DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENT
 
  • Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations and all areas within the site which could include heights of 150 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
  • Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, as needed, including hard hat, hearing protection, eye protection, hard-toed safety shoes or boots, dust mask respirator, protective clothing, gloves and other personal protective equipment. 
  • Employee will be exposed to the following working conditions:  Extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils, and atmospheric conditions such as dust, fumes, and mineral particles.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb ladders and stairs, shovel material and work on elevated platforms.
  • Must be able to lift to 100 pounds.
